The Cities of Lörrach (DE), Sens (FR), Senigallia (IT) and Chester (UK) and associate partners from Edirne (TR), Fafe (PT), Split (HR) and Valladolid (ES) creating a network for sustainable tourism.
This Citizenship-project “Net4Ps+ Developing Sustainable Tourism” is an initiative of four twin cities, Sens in France, Senigallia in Italy, Chester in England and Lörrach in South Germany. The project was realized within the EU-Citizenship-Program. The aim was to create a network in tourism with the stakeholders from the twin cities and to extend good cooperation to Southern European countries, with a focus on the Mediterranean. Given friendly contacts in all twin cities, Edirne in Turkey with Lörrach, Split in Croatia with Senigallia, Valladolid in Spain with Chester and Fafe in Portugal with Sens, these cities were invited to participate in the program and benefit from the meetings in a 24-months´ program.
The overall-goal was to develop good cooperation on sustainable tourism and responsible behavior in the tourism sector with a view to creating tangible offers with low-impact in transports and high-impact in culture heritage by the means of a very regional approach in every city. With the expertise from Universities and tourism departments, with the commitment of volunteers and politicians and with the help from administrations and mayors of the cities, the delegates met in five meetings to learn about responsible tourism in the twin cities and to define common criteria for sustainable tourism and to create a sustainable network in tourism with all stakeholders. Best practices were explored, future visions were defined and continuous cooperation was agreed.
The outcomes from five meetings in the four cities are published on this website. The results of workshops and conferences with delegates from twin cities and friendly linked cities in the Mediterranean, Split in Croatia, Fafe in Portugal, Valladolid in Spain and Edirne in Turkey are specified in a brochure “VADEMECUM – a Handbook to Sustainable Tourism”, in a film “Lörrach Sculpture Trail – accessible for all” and a Resolution on Sustainable Tourism. All outcomes are free for download on this website Net4Ps.eu.
The project “Net4Ps Developing Sustainable Tourism” is co-financed by the European Union within the EU-programme “Europe for Citizens”. + LOGO
